Resolving Error 40 When Starting AR Routers in eNSP on Windows
Hi folks, I'm prepping for the Huawei ICT comp through my academy, and they've hooked us up with this older eNSP version for practice. Problem is, whenever I fire up an AR router or any WLAN gear in the sim, I slam into Error 40 right away. I've wiped it clean and reinstalled a couple times, but no dice—still stuck. Anyone got fixes for this startup glitch? Super frustrating when you're trying to lab out configs!

Admin Answer

Error 40 in eNSP usually ties back to VirtualBox mismatches or firewall blocks—common with legacy versions. Start by confirming you're on VirtualBox 5.2.x (not 6+ or 7, as eNSP hates those). Disable Windows Firewall temporarily or add rules for eNSP exes. Also, toggle off Hyper-V if enabled, and ensure WinPcap/Wireshark are properly installed without conflicts. If it's Win11, disable Core Isolation in Security settings. Re-register devices in eNSP via the tools menu. I fixed mine by rolling back VB and rebooting—worked like a charm for HCIE preps.
